AN engineering company has praised a college for helping bridge the skills gap.
Altec Engineering Group says the quality of apprenticeships from Hartlepool College of Further Education is playing a key role in getting talented youngsters into jobs.
Altec, based in Bowburn, near Durham City, has worked closely with the college since first employing its students in 2010.
David Steel, group development director, said: “We turned to the college because we were not 100 per cent satisfied with other apprenticeship providers and we have not regretted our decision.”
Darren Hankey, college principal, said: “Students are gaining theoretical knowledge and, by working at companies like Altec, gaining valuable life experience.”
Mr Hankey added the college is holding an open night for people to find out about its courses.
The event takes place on Thursday, March 9 between 5.30pm and 8pm at its Stockton Street campus.
