A BUILDING control company has strengthened its international ties after securing a Falkland Islands contract.

Aedis, which runs its head office out of Darlington, is working with the South Atlantic archipelago’s government.

Bosses say its North-East base will manage and deliver the work, which will help Falkland planning officials ensure new building work complies with regulations.

The contract comes after Aedis, founded in 2009, delivered training for Israeli surveyors on behalf of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

Martin Barrett, business development manager, said: “We are delighted to have secured the Falkland Islands work; winning this type of contract is a reflection of how far we have come in a relatively short space of time.”

Mr Barrett revealed its Falkland deal covers a range of building projects, from small domestic works to new builds and industrial and commercial buildings.

He added: “We are in regular contact with the Falkland Islands team and all is going to plan.

“Our experience and expertise is proving a great support and we will look to continue the partnership well into 2017.”

Sarah Witherley, head of environmental planning for the Falkland Islands government, praised Aedis’ support. She added: “Aedis are providing efficient and professional technical support, which is enabling the department to continue delivering a service.”
