AN insurer is merging businesses in a move bosses say will position it for post-Brexit growth.

Aviva is bringing its life, general and health insurance operations together.

Aviva’s general insurance division has a call centre in York, while its life business also operates from a base in the city.

A spokesman told The Northern Echo the move will help the business evolve in the digital age and also played down job fears, saying staff will still be needed to respond to customer queries.

He added a member of staff will be able to deal with a number of issues at once, without having to pass a caller through various departments.

Mark Wilson, group chief executive, said: “The business is developing rapidly.

“We see significant opportunities to differentiate our business post-Brexit.

“We like the UK, we are investing in the UK and we are growing in the UK.”

He added Andy Briggs, head of Aviva’s UK Life business, will be promoted to chief executive of the merged insurance division.

Aviva Investors, Aviva Asia and the group’s digital businesses will remain unchanged.
