A FORMER Nissan worker has swapped the production line for the legal profession.

Callum Robertson has joined EMG Solicitors, based near Durham City.

Mr Robertson, from Lanchester, near Consett, County Durham, is an apprentice solicitor.

The 27-year-old, who studied part-time for a law degree at Northumbria University while working at Sunderland-based Nissan, will start in residential conveyancing before moving into EMG’s will, trusts and probate division.

He hopes to obtain a masters degree during his training and complete the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s new centralised assessment.

Mr Robertson, who went to the library to study straight after night shifts at Nissan, said: “My first job was in the pub trade but then I went back to do my A-levels so I could go to university.

“I then got my job at Nissan and was working there full-time while studying for my law degree.

“It was hard work because I’d finish my shift at the factory and then go straight to the library, but I was determined to do it.

“I came across the apprenticeship scheme and it seemed perfect.”

Emma Gaudern, managing director at EMG Solicitors, said Mr Robertson was a welcome addition.

She added: “Callum was the perfect fit for us as we recognised he was committed and driven, traits that everyone who works at EMG demonstrates.

“We’re delighted to offer an alternative for graduates wanting to avoid the traditional pathway to a legal qualification.”
