BOSSES at a North-East port have called for greater improvements to rail infrastructure as they celebrate the second anniversary of a rail terminal opening.

PD Ports’ Teesport rail terminal was built in 2014 and has connections to Southampton, Felixstowe in Suffolk, and Mossend and Grangemouth in Scotland.

The rail terminal is part of PD Ports’ wider growth strategy at Teesport, which has seen them invest £1bn in the area over the last decade.

Geoff Lippitt, business development director at PD Ports, said: “We’ve successfully built a strong rail operation at Teesport and there is a clear appetite for increased frequency of services.

“But as an industry we still face significant challenges that could potentially hold back future progress if existing issues of inadequate UK rail infrastructure and limited capacity aren’t tackled.”

PD Ports says those who use the terminal are reducing costs by eliminating road miles and cutting carbon dioxide emissions.
