HUNDREDS of jobs will be created and supported at a new hotel, a developer has claimed.

Jomast is overseeing the creation of an 83-room Middlesbrough Premier Inn.

Work is due to start early next year.

Bosses say they hope the scheme will create and support more than 300 posts across the construction phase and subsequent operation of the hotel.

The building will be based next to an existing Jurys Inn hotel and the site of union Unite’s offices.

Adam Hearld, Jomast development director, said the Stockton-based company was delighted to be playing its part in the regeneration of Middlesbrough.

He added: “The project will have a significant impact in transforming the existing area, benefiting it both architecturally and economically with the addition of hundreds of jobs to local people.”

Jomast has past experience of hotel building, having previously completed work on an extension of Travelodge’s Hartlepool Marina site.

The company also operates in the housing sector, and has seen plans for a development on land south of Kirklevington, near Yarm, Stockton, approved.

Officials say the 145-property project will include a convenience store and sports sites.

Mr Hearld added: “We have spent a considerable amount of time and effort creating a scheme that retains and builds upon the strength and traditional character of Kirklevington, while also recognising the importance of new housing to meet demand and contribute to the sustainability of the village.”

Earlier this year, Jomast, which runs a development office in Wynyard, near Stockton, revealed it had completed work on a new unit for Marks and Spencer in Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
