A BUDGET supermarket has revealed plans to open more than 100 new stores in the North-East.
Aldi has confirmed it plans to open around 120 additional stores in the region in the coming years as part of its national growth strategy.
The supermarket also confirmed it will create 245 new jobs in the seven northern stores it has already announced will open next year, including Washington, Gateshead and Thornaby, near Stockton.
Aldi recently announced plans to expand its regional distribution centre in Faverdale, near Darlington, creating a further 200 warehouse and distribution jobs.
Steve Barnett, regional managing director at Aldi said: “The North East is an Aldi heartland where savvy shoppers know that they can purchase outstanding quality products at unbeatable prices when they visit one of our stores.
“To keep pace with customer demand we are opening more stores than any other supermarket right across the UK, including seven new stores next year in the North East.
"This will allow thousands of new customers to start shopping with Aldi and save money on their groceries.”
