A MINISTRY of Defence vehicle repair firm says it won’t flinch in the face of Brexit panic.

Babcock International says strong demand is providing long-term confidence against any EU jitters.

The engineer previously spent £140m to buy Defence Support Group (DSG), which has a base in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, from the government.

DSG is known for looking after Land Rovers and heavy-duty trucks used across the UK and abroad, and Babcock says the division is actively bidding to secure numerous fresh contracts.

Bosses added the operation is also benefiting from an agreement to oversee the running of the Army’s Challenger tank fleet.

Referring to the period from April 1 to present, a spokesman said: “The financial year has started well and we continue to experience strong demand for the services we provide to customers in the UK and overseas.

“The order book and bid pipeline have remained stable, with around 85 per cent of revenue now in place for 2016/17 and 56 per cent for 2017/18.

“DSG is progressing a number of opportunities and has been confirmed as the support provider to the Challenger fleet under the life extension programme starting in 2020.

“However, the exact level of activity is yet to be finalised.”

The spokesman added Brexit has yet to have a serious impact.

He said: “While it is too early to predict the effect of the referendum vote, the-long term fundamentals are unchanged and the board remains confident of continued growth this year and beyond.”

DSG employs around 100 people at Catterick Garrison.
