A SHOPPING centre has recruited a former Household Cavalry member.

Cornmill Shopping Centre in Darlington has appointed David Flynn, 53, facilities manager.

Mr Flynn spent more than 30 years in the Armed Forces, most recently as a commissioned officer in the Royal Army Medical Corps, acquiring a range of skills transferrable to the role including training and development, human resources and health and safety.

He joins the Cornmill’s management team in his first civilian role and will be responsible for a team of 22.

Hailing from Northamptonshire, Mr Flynn met his wife in Darlington when he was touring with the Household Cavalry’s mobile display team and has lived in the town for the past 18 years.

He said: “I’m thrilled to join the team at the Cornmill in what is my first civilian role since leaving the Armed Forces. While it is sure to be a challenge I’m already enjoying the work-life balance that comes with living and working in Darlington when I’m used to being on the move.”
