A FAMILY-RUN building maintenance firm has secured £250,000 work across the North-East.

Stone Technical Services Group (STS), in Darlington, is carrying out chimney stack surveys and inspections at primary schools for Durham County Council, and repairing stairs in Darlington's Cornmill Centre.

The company is working on conservation and drainage repairs to the 13th Century friary at Blackfriars, in Newcastle, as well as fitting lightning protection to Quayside student accommodation and hundreds of flats in the Byker Wall project.

In Warkworth, Northumberland, it is partnering Lumsden and Carroll and the Esh Group to build sandstone walls at Environmental Agency flood defences, and surveying St George's Church, in Cullercoats, North Tyneside.

Bosses have revealed the firm is also working in North Yorkshire, repairing weather damage on Whitby's Mountain Warehouse store and carrying out gutter repairs to Yorkshire Coast College, in Scarborough.

Earlier this month, Stone, which has worked on St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace, revealed it had secured contracts worth more than £1m since the start of the year.

Dave Stone, managing director, said: “From regional icons to public buildings in daily use, we’re working on a massive range of jobs.

“What is very encouraging is the number of returning customers, who have been impressed with our service and come back again.”
