A MULTI-MILLION pound investment will see Newcastle become the North-East’s first city to get 4G mobile phone service tomorrow (December 4).

Everything Everywhere (EE), the company formed after mobile networks Orange and T-Mobile merged, will officially launch the service in Newcastle, following a multi-million pound investment in the region.

The service, known as 4GEE, will offer businesses and residents in Newcastle mobile speeds typically five times faster than 3G, as well as new fibre broadband services.

The North-East city is part of the second wave of cities to benefit from the new technology since the launch of the service on October 30.

EE is the first company in the UK to provide 4G mobile services.
