NEWCASTLE United manager Kevin Keegan was honoured yesterday when an airline company renamed a plane in recognition of his legendary status on Tyneside.

Flybe's regular flight from Newcastle to Southampton now bears the Magpies' manager's name and a picture of him during his playing days.

The Bombardier Q400, which will also be flying from Newcastle to Gatwick, has a new registration code of KKEV.

The former England and Manchester City manager is the third football star to be honoured by Flybe.

Former Southampton striker Matt Le Tissier has his name on the airline's flight from the south coast city to Jersey, and the flight from Manchester to Belfast is in honour of the late George Best.

Keegan said: "I left Southampton to come to Newcastle as a player and my daughter lives there, so that's a fantastic link."
