• My motives

  I RESPECTFULLY suggest that P Ainsley (HAS, Jan 28) checks his facts before making spurious remarks condemning me. My reason for becoming a local politician was because I am proud of Willington and most of its residents and felt I could achieve more as a councillor for their mutual benefit. read more

• Integration

  PETE Winstanley says I am talking “nonsense” about the ethnic cleansing of the indigenous Britons from parts of their own homeland (HAS, Jan 30). I know it might be hard for Mr Winstanley to see this when residing in an area of Britain that according to the 2001 census was 97.7 per cent white. read more

• Global warming

  ROBERT Meggs (Echo, Feb 4) said that the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM) had petitioned almost every scientist in the US to see if they believed that carbon dioxide is causing global warming. read more

• Tax codes warning

  A GLITCH in a new computer system has caused HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to send out thousands of incorrect PAYE codes to UK taxpayers. read more

• Alcohol prices

  AS an alcoholic now just starting my 24th year of recovery can I suggest that one of the three main parties should state that if elected it will bring in stricter controls on the price of alcohol? read more

• Electoral reform

  IN your Comment article, “Restoring a vital link” (Echo, Feb 4), the explanation about the “Alternative Vote” appears to have a slight error. It states that any MP would be elected by at least 50 per cent of constituents; should that not have read “by at least 50 per cent of the total percentage of constituents who actually voted”? read more

• Talking point

  MIKE Amos, in his John North column (Echo, Feb 4), says there is no verb from the noun “raconteur”. read more
