ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14 THE A1(M) MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 58 TO JUNCTION 60) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the A1(M) Motorway and the A167 Trunk Road, in the District of Darlington, to enable new drainage, replacement bridge pier and foundation and replacement signage works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start on Tuesday 2 January 2018 for 2 months, or until completed. The effect of the Order will be to close, between 8pm and 6am Sunday to Thursday nights, between 8pm and 8am on Friday nights and between 8pm and 9am on Saturday nights, at times during the works, the: (i) A1(M) northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 58 (Burtree Interchange) to entry slip road at Junction 60 (Bradbury Interchange) a distance of 12700 metres; (ii) A1(M) southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 60 to the entry slip road at Junction 58, a distance of 12700 metres; (iii) A1(M) northbound exit and southbound entry slip roads at Junction 60; (iv) A1(M) northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 59 (Aycliffe Interchange); and (v) A1(M) northbound entry and southbound exit slip roads at Junction 58. The works will also require, 24 hours a day, at times during the works: (vi) lane closures, during which times a 50mph temporary speed restriction will be required on the above lengths of carriageway as described in (i) to (v); or (vii) lane closures with hard shoulder running on the above lengths of carriageway as described in (i) to (v). It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to: (viii) impose a temporary 30mph speed restriction on the A167 Aycliffe Interchange Roundabout; (ix) close lanes in the A1(M) northbound entry and southbound exit slip roads at Junction 58, during which times the hard shoulders will be used for traffic; (x) ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6’6’’ and an overall weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes on the above lengths of carriageway as described in (i) and (ii); (xi) close the footpath adjacent to the A167 westbound carriageway at its junction with Aycliffe Interchange Roundabout; and (xii) close the southern or the northern section of the A167 Aycliffe Interchange Roundabout (only one section to be closed at any time). During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times. Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works, to anyone engaged in the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 1 January 2018 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
