CHILDREN discovered the benefits of superfast fibre broadband at an event to celebrate its arrival in their community.
More than 2,500 homes and businesses in Trimdon Village, Trimdon Colliery, Trimdon Station, Trimdon Grange and Deaf Hill can now access fibre broadband, capable of speeds in excess of 30Mbps, as part of the Digital Durham programme.
Today (Friday, November 21), staff from Digital Durham, a multi-million pound broadband programme being delivered by Durham County Council and BT, held an information event at Trimdon Village Hall.
Youngsters from Trimdon Junior School attended to find out more.
Rachael Thompson, a teaching assistant at the school, said: “An engineer showed them all the equipment and how it works. The children really enjoyed it and asked lots of questions.”
Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson, MP, said: “This is a huge boost for Trimdon. People living and working here can now benefit from superfast broadband speeds which I have no doubt will revolutionise the way they use the internet.
“Whether it makes working or running a small business from home a possibility or enables school children to complete homework tasks more effectively or simply lets people enjoy the latest methods of home entertainment, superfast broadband is an option we should all be exploring.”
