THERE might not be too much at stake on the final day but Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi and Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola are both determined to finish the campaign on a high - which is good news for Newcastle.

The Magpies will be focusing on themselves on Sunday and getting the win they need to guarantee a seventh place finish.

But if they're to climb to sixth and guarantee European football, they need Bournemouth to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, while a Manchester United defeat at Brighton would ensure Eddie Howe's side finish seventh regardless of their result at Brentford.

A seventh-place finish would mean Europa Conference League football next term providing Manchester City beat their neighbours in next week's FA Cup final.

Brighton made the last 16 of this season's Europa League and although they won't be playing in Europe against next term, boss De Zerbi is desperate to finish in the top half - which would be guaranteed with a final day win over Manchester United. A win would also make sure Albion finish above their rivals Crystal Palace.

He said: “We want to finish the season in the top ten. It won’t be a great result if we compare to last season, but if we consider the many problems we have had it can be considered a good result.

"We are happy for this season, but maybe not enough. It has been a very tough season and the fans have understood everything.

"I am happy for this season but I am sorry because I am disappointed and wished we would compete in a different way. Next season we can be a stronger squad and team."

As for Bournemouth, they've enjoyed a hugely impressive campaign and are currently 11th, only outside the top half on goal difference. For boss Iraola, it's been an outstanding first season at the Vitality Stadium. He was nominated for the Premier League manager of the year award and this week rewarded with a new contract - and he now wants to put the finishing touches to a memorable campaign.

He said: “It has been our first season together and I’m happy then that everyone is in a good place and we can continue working together.

“You know, really, when you arrive in a new place, you don’t know how you will do. You expect that things go well but I think we’ve been improving during the season.

“Now that we are finishing the season and you look at the stats and you try to separate everything, analyse everything and things that you can improve for next season.

“I think we’ve been improving in a lot of different areas and I hope we can continue the same way.”

A point will be enough for Chelsea to secure sixth place and Mauricio Pochettino's side could still overtake Tottenham with a win but they'd need Spurs to lose at relegated Sheffield United.

Pochettino said: “The way we are finishing the season, I am happy. To finish in this way gives us the hope to start strong next season, with the capacity from the beginning of the season to have the possibility to fight for big things.”
