A woman has suffered serious injuries following a crash involving a pedestrian and vehicle.
Northumbria Police have confirmed they received a report of the collision on Bensham Road near to the junction of Barrington Place, in Gateshead, shortly before 4pm on Wednesday (May 15).
They said a white Citroen Relay minibus had been travelling in an easterly direction when it hit a female pedestrian on the road.
The woman in her 30s suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital – where she remains in a critical but stable condition.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “The driver of the minibus remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.
“Part of the road was closed for several hours but it has since been re-opened.

“Officers from Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit have launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision – and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
“They are particularly keen to understand the moments leading up to the collision, and would like to hear from motorists who were driving in the area at the time, and any witnesses who may have dashcam footage or CCTV.
