A County Durham councillor has been chosen as the Conservative MP candidate for Easington.
Joanne Howey, a Durham County Council member, has been selected by the Conservatives ahead of the upcoming general election.
She serves as a county councillor for Woodhouse Close in Bishop Auckland.
They said the mum-of-four has a “proven track record” in local regeneration, problem-solving, and getting results for her community.
The councillor said she felt honoured to be selected as the candidate and added she is “deeply committed” to serving her community.
She said: “I am honoured to have been chosen as the Conservative candidate for Easington and am deeply committed to serving the people of this community.

Cllr Howey currently works for Bishop Auckland MP Dehenna Davison and has said she understands the challenges the people of Easington face.
