Gosforth-headquartered Parkdean Resorts, the UK’s largest holiday park operator, is looking for new recruits across Northumberland and Durham after investing almost £200,000 to enhance accommodation at its five parks in the region.

Parkdean Resorts employs over 1,000 people in the region - 400 people in peak season at its holiday parks, and more than 650 at its head office in Gosforth. Between them, Church Point, in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Whitley Bay, Cresswell Towers at Druridge Bay, Sandy Bay in Ashington, and Crimdon Dene, near Hartlepool, welcomed almost 120,000 holidaymakers last year, marking one of Parkdean Resorts’ busiest years on record.

Prompted by strong bookings for 2024, the company will recruit 6,000 people for its 66 UK-wide parks, including 750 jobs in the North East. With 250 different careers across its business, the company is hiring for a wide range of roles in different departments, and job opportunities include Cleaners, Bar & Waiting team members, Maintenance Assistants, Lifeguards, Security Officers, Chefs and Kitchen Assistants.

The recruitment drive comes as the company announced an investment of more than £34m in its parks for 2024, including refurbishing more than 1,500 holiday homes, adding new caravans and introducing new food and beverage units. More than 70 caravans are being refurbished across the North East, and four new caravans have been added to parks in the region to improve accommodation options for holidaymakers.

Steve Richards, CEO, Parkdean Resorts, said: “We’re always looking to invest in the guest experience at our parks. 59% of our customers rebook with us, and continuing to enhance our parks will help bring people back to the North East year after year.

"We create rewarding jobs in the community which can turn into life-long careers in hospitality, and our staff engagement score of 83%, which is well above the sector average, shows our teams are happy. 2024 promises to be another busy year, so there’s no better time to join our brilliant team who do so much to help our guests make lasting memories with their families.”

Parkdean Resorts employs more than 8,000 people across the UK, and last year welcomed more than three million holidaymakers to its 66 parks in some of the UK’s finest beauty spots. The company won three Gold Awards at the British Travel Awards - Best Company for UK Family Holidays, Best Company for UK Parks and Lodges Holidays, and Best Company for UK Short Breaks – the second straight year it had picked up all three awards.

Last year, the holiday park operator published its first ESG report and progress to date includes reducing carbon emissions by 17% vs 2019, launching a 50% holiday discount for team members, with 3,460 bookings made under the scheme in 2022, enhancing and investing in local communities, and supporting charity partners by gifting 150 free holidays to families.
