THE old Co-op building in Newgate Street has been closed for several years as have the three hotels in the market square in Bishop Auckland and yet no mention was made of their future in the latest regeneration programme.
All of these are prominent premises that are badly in need of some action if visitors are to be given an incentive to return to a once vibrant town.
The Kingsway project is welcome but will not encourage shoppers who continue to go to the St Helens Retail Park, which itself is being re-developed to include even more retail and leisure facilities.
