Police seize cannabis worth £33k in Middlesbrough

Officers from Middlesbrough Proactive Team discovered the plants at a property on Laycock Street in Newport, Middlesbrough, after reports of suspicious activity at the address.

Around 40 cannabis plants were located, believed to be worth up to £33,600, and the electricity had been bypassed at the address.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved, and officers would encourage anyone with information to call Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number 090830.

Police have highlighted signs that might indicate a premises is being used as a cannabis farm, including:

• The property might look empty or unlived in
• People and vehicles coming and going during the day and night.
• Large boxes, pipes, Lighting equipment, plastic sheeting, bags of fertilizer or building materials are seen going into the premises at different times
• Fans which might be seen or heard by neighbours
• A smell of the plants on occasion which comes and goes Building work going on inside the premises.
