A popular sushi restaurant in the heart of historic Durham City has closed down to make way for a new street food venue.

Nudo Sushi Box on the Riverwalk, near Framwellgate Bridge in Durham City Centre, closed down recently to make way for Malatang Express, a Chinese street food venue.

Malatang Express describes its namesake meal as a "beloved Chinese dish known for its customisable nature, and bold, spicy broth.

The business adds: "In here, you become the chef as you select from a wide array of fresh ingredients including meats, vegetables, noodles, and a choice of broth to create your perfect bowl of malatang.

"Join us for a culinary adventure unlike any other, where every bowl tells a unique story of flavour and spice."

The restaurant replaces Nudo Sushi, which has resided on the Riverwalk for years, though has faced increased competition after the opening of Kokoro on Silver Street.

The business has branches across the north of England, and fans can get their Nudo-fix at the company's two locations in Newcastle, or at Sunderland The Bridges.

Nudo Sushi still owns Malatang Express in Durham, though they have changed their offerings to better suit the changing tastes of their Durham customer base.

Coming out of Malatang, a satisfied customer, who preferred to remain nameless, said: "Malatang Express offers a unique experience for those who want to get a hotpot but don't gave the space for the whole ordeal.

"The flavours are nice and the ingredients seem fresh. Loved the first visit, I can't wait for an excuse to go back!"
